It’s combining many different aspects of you, your thought processes, your emotions, your job, your friends, family, exercise, and much more to make a well-rounded lifestyle that builds a positive environment within yourself and your surroundings.
Being well consists of an entire mind, body, soul existence. Living with a state of mind that promotes a positive lifestyle is what you want to go for. After all, God wants us to be whole and happy from the inside out.
Fortunately, there are many practical tools to promote this wellness way of living.
Before we go any further, I must let you I am only a mom with a family, not a doctor, aromatherapist or wellness coach (although being a wellness coach would be great and I think I’ll have to look into that). I’ve just got some great info and want to share it with you. As always, use your essential oils with caution. Read the full disclaimer here.
If you’d like to go deeper in wellness and it’s components, this post might interest you. “The Six Dimensions of Wellness”.
As stated before, wellness comes in many forms. Here are just a few things you can start right away to improve your sense of well-being.
1. Create A Positive Environment
Choosing to surround yourself with positivity ignites a superpower within the brain. It has been proven that positivity breeds success. Whether it’s just completing a particular task for the day or building a thriving business, an upbeat, affirming environment is absolutely necessary.
Here a few tips to creating a welcoming and positive environment. Post up wellness quotes such as “Positive Mind, Positive Attitude, Positive Life”, stay away from people who bring negativity into your life, and take time each morning to be grateful for something.
Feeding your brain with daily encouragement brings about a stable mindset which in turn makes you feel like you can weather any storm.
A clean environment is just as important as a positive one. Cleanliness is a virtue. Keeping the place where you spend most of your time free from dirt and germs prevents illness as well as depression and it can even increase productivity. An article in Psychology Today, states “In 2011, researchers at Princeton University found that clutter can actually make it more difficult to focus on a particular task.”
While you may not have time to clean your home from top to bottom every day, you can take care of little things each day to encourage a spruced up home.
Here are a few tips to keep your home fresh and clean. Wipe down your kitchen counters every day, I recommend more than once a day. Keep your high traffic floor areas clean. This prevents the spread of dirt and germs. Clear the clutter. I typically have papers that pile up so once a week, I try to clear out the paper pile, twice a week if I can.
Also, most of my cleaning includes the use of essential oils. They work wonders for the mind and body as well as help clean your home naturally.
3. Clean Eating
Incorporating healthy food into your diet is pretty much mandatory for wellness. Eating whole, unprocessed foods help your body to perform at it’s best which promote wellness. There are tons of healthy eating bloggers out there. Two of my favorites are Alyssa at Simply Quinoa and Sarah at Live Eat Learn.
Each of these bloggers are constantly putting out new and delicious recipes to stay on track with your nutrition as well as invaluable information. Bonus, dark chocolate in small amounts is actually good for you. It contains antioxidants, satisfies cravings and releases endorphins for that happy feeling. And studies have shown, it may combat cancer.
Here are a few tips to clean eating. Stop buying junk food. This only slows your metabolism and makes you feel yucky. Try meal planning. Believe it or not, when you follow a meal plan, your life becomes easier and you eat better. Pick a day of the week to do food prep. Having healthy snacks readily available makes it super easy to eat clean.

4. Drink Tea
I am a firm believer in the power of tea. Not only can it satisfy a sweet tooth, it’s filled with antioxidants. Black tea, green tea, white tea, it really doesn’t matter, there is goodness in that amazing beverage.
I have my favorites such as Zen green tea and Lipton black tea. I’ve recently discovered a tea made by Bigelow formulated specifically for wellness. It’s chock full of amazing herbs to fight illness and support your overall health.
Here are a few tips on getting more tea into your diet. Leave a bag or two somewhere in sight. I have a fruit basket on my counter that I leave a couple of bags stashed in at all times. This way I remember to drink it.
I bought a water kettle that I keep water in. So when I’m ready, I can just turn it on and it quickly heats up the water for a fresh cup. I got mine from Walmart but here’s one from Amazon if you’d like. You can also brew a big batch of tea and keep it in your refrigerator.
No practical guide to wellness would be complete without the addition of exercise. If you haven’t heard of the benefits of exercise by now, then you must have been living under a rock.
Exercise does so many important things for the body. It strengthens muscles, fights infections, releases toxins as well as releases those wonderful endorphins we talked about earlier.
Here are a few tips to get daily exercise. Take the stairs if you’re able. Do 5 minutes of morning stretching. Play outside with your kids or pets. Clean the house. As mentioned before, cleanliness is a big part of creating an environment of wellness but cleaning also burns lots of calories.
6. Take Time To Feed The Inner Man
As a firm believer in Jesus, I know that when we are not taking care of our spirit man, we suffer. Praying and reading daily might seem time-consuming but when you do it, your whole day changes.
You actually become more productive, you feel better because you’ve taken time out to speak to your Heavenly Father and you are better prepared for any mishaps that might happen.
When I take time to “just be” in the Lord’s presence, I am renewed from the inside out. Then I am able to feed others with love and grace. I realize that taking time to pray and read…takes time but the benefit from this is superior to any other benefit I have found.
I encourage you to find some way to feed your inner self. Maybe self-help books, spending time in nature or purging yourself of any self-destructive ideas and thoughts are excellent options.
Show yourself some love and care and watch your life change for the better.
