I've been making my own for several years and I've recently ventured out into the world of DIY lotions using emulsifying wax.

This new experimentation comes from the ebook/ecourse purchase of Jan Berry's Handmade Lotion and Creams. She's an amazing DIY beauty creator with tons of recipes and how-to's so stay tuned for some awesome recipes including a Lavender Body Lotion and a baby bottom cream. Other books she offers are Natural Soap Making and Natural Bath Care.

So, what will you need for this recipe?

  • Epsom Salts or Sugar

  • Carrier oil (coconut, almond, jojoba, safflower)

  • Tea Tree Essential Oil

  • Lime Essential Oil

Exfoliation brings a natural glow to your skin

Since the skin is a living breathing organ, it's important to regularly rid it of dead skin cells. Up on doing this, you reveal healthy skin cells which gives the body fresh look and softens at the same time.

Depending on the carrier oil you use, different vitamins and nutrients will be potentially absorbed. For instance, coconut oil is a great anti-bacterial oil with Vitamin K and E (possible anti-aging properties). Almond oil contains Vitamin A which may help prevent acne.

Jojoba Oil contains Vitamins B and E which both help with aging and contain skin healing properties. Safflower oil is an all around good oil that is very unlikely to clog pores. I use it in many recipes including body butters and soaps.

Tea Tree essential oil is one of my favorite oils. Although, it is one of those oils you either love or hate. It has a clean, woodsy, camphorous smell which I love but some fight the scent off-putting. It's an amazing acne fighting oil that is antibacterial, an immuno-stimulant, and has been shown to whiten teeth. Check out my full post here.

Lime essential oil is uplifting, citrusy, refreshing scent that also pairs quite nicely with Rosemary essential oil. Some benefits of lime essential oil are that it's considered an astringent, anti-bacterial, and even a disinfectant.

Recipe

  • 3/4 cup Epsom salts or sugar

  • 3 Tbsp Carrier Oil (coconut, almond, jojoba, safflower)

  • 6 drops Tea Tree essential oil

  • 6 drops Lime essential oil

Directions

-Combine salt or sugar with carrier oil and mix thoroughly. Add in essential oils and mix thoroughly. This can be used all over the body, including the face, just make sure you use gentle pressure when applying the scrub. If you use this in the shower or tub, please be careful as it might be slippery.
