What To Do When You Feel Unworthy
Living with depression is real but there is hope.
We’ve all been there. Depressed, confused, hopeless, wondering what to do next. There is a way to overcome this. With the help of scripture and prayer, you can move forward and achieve peace.
It’s ok to feel this way, for a minute, but don’t take up residence in this emotion. 1. because it’s not true and 2. because it’s not healthy.
I am a perfect example of someone who has felt worthless more than once in their life. In elementary school, I was bullied and picked on and throughout my teenage years, I was made fun of by peers and even family.

Feeling inadequate happens to all of us at one time or another but I am here to encourage to keep moving on. There is a song by Toby Mac (a Christian artist) which says “Move, keep walking, the Lord ain’t finished yet.” And it’s so true.
The disappointments we experience do not have to define us. Nor does the past. Whatever anyone has ever said about you in a negative way is untrue. God says you are His. God says you are talented, gifted, smart, and accepted. God says you are loved.
Don’t let the enemy continue to make you feel unworthy when you have been created in the image of God, the One who created the universe. All that you see, the trees, the animals, the water, the moon, He made it. He loves you and He has so much more for you.
You have value and are important. It tells us in Psalm 139:14. “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” This means that you are wonderful. God doesn’t make mistakes and if He created you in His image, then you are created wonderfully.
Doubt is a part of our human nature. Struggles are part of this human life. Dealing with unworthiness can be a daily struggle but there is hope. If I am the only one to ever tell you that, just know, there is hope.
I’ve been in those dark places where you no longer feel like you have anything to contribute to this world. But God’s grace has covered me and kept me. It will do the same for you.
And listen to this…"We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
You have a purpose. God has called to do something incredible. Something only you can do. YOU have been made with purpose, on purpose, to do something of purpose. There are people who need you, yes, even in your messed up, sad, depressed, unworthy feeling state, you are needed.
Don’t give up hope.
The Bible tells us that Jesus died for us. If you didn’t have value, why would He do that? It’s because you do have value. You are so loved and important to God. He wants you to live to a life filled with victory and joy.
Something you need to understand is that if you weren’t such a threat to the kingdom of darkness, the enemy wouldn’t be throwing all of this at you. You are so integral to God’s plan that the enemy attacks you in this manner.
If Satan can keep you held down, then you are ineffective and you cannot help others achieve freedom. Living in a shell or a hole doesn’t help anybody. God needs you to stay strong and call upon Him in your time of need.
God has a plan for your life. You are needed and loved.
List 10 positive things about yourself. (This could be accomplishments or things you’re proud of, maybe you’ve got a great smile)
List 10 scriptures about what God thinks of you or that are encouraging and review them daily. (Yes, this might take a little research but it’s important)
Pray daily. (Overcoming unworthiness requires daily prayer. God is your strength. Allow Him to show you who you are in Him)
Speak out positive every day. (The Bible tells us that we have the power of life and death on the tongue. Speak positively over yourself, not negatively)
I encourage you to print off the worksheets (link is below) and fill them out. Take a moment to ask the Lord for forgiveness for allowing yourself to feel unworthy and ask Him to help you move past this so you can be a blessing to others. Ask Him to begin to teach you what He wants you to do on this earth. Ask Him to show you how He sees you.
If you don’t have a Bible, please, please get one. This is your weapon against the schemes of the enemy. The more scripture you know, the more you can fight back against the lies of the enemy. There’s a link below.
Did you know that Jesus quoted the Bible when the enemy tried to tempt Him?
I hope you have found encouragement and hope today. There is a light in you that the world needs to see. Shine bright and show others the Jesus in you.
Have a blessed day!
